When Colors Hug!, by Drew Paryzer

(In the clouds.)

Red
Excuse me –

Violet
Please don’t hurt me I’m sorry I didn’t mean it!

Red
What?

Violet
Oh. I thought you were mad.

Red
I was hoping other colors would understand.

Violet
I’m sorry. I just came up from below the clouds. It must take time to stop thinking like we do below.

Red
You don’t have to be sad.

Violet
I’m not sad. I’m contemplative.

Red
Oh! I did the same to you! Do you forgive me?

Violet
Yes.

Red
Can I give you a hug?

(Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Indigo all enter – holding hands. They speak in unison.)

OYGBI
It’s time!

Violet
Who are you?

OYGBI
Join us!

Red
Thank you, but I’d rather be my own color.

OYGBI
It’s almost done raining! We are incomplete without the two of you!

Violet
I came up here to be alone. Thanks for the offer, but I’d rather not.

Red
Same.

OYGBI
But you’re with each other? Aren’t you?

Violet
Well.

Red
Yeah.

OYGBI
You were about to hug?

Red
Well –

Violet
Yes. We were about to hug.

OYGBI
Then go ahead!

(As Red and Violet hug, OYGBI sneak between them – and they become a rainbow!)

ROYGBIV
Ready or not, here we go!!!

(They arc down and shine over the world. The end.)
